Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock
#4 — Best Budget

Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock Review (2026)

18oz, $40, 400lb limit — the budget hammock that outperforms its price tag

★★★★★
8.4/10
Reviewed by William • May 2026$40

At $40, the Wise Owl Outfitters hammock is half the price of the ENO DoubleNest for nearly identical performance. The ripstop nylon, aluminum carabiners, and 400lb weight limit match the competition. The quality control is less consistent than ENO — I have seen reports of stitching issues on a small percentage of units. But the ones I have used have held up well, and at $40 the value is hard to argue with for casual camping use.

Field Notes

Borrowed this from a hiking friend for a weekend AT section near Harpers Ferry. Setup was identical to the ENO. Sleep quality was similar. The only difference I noticed was a slightly stiffer carabiner gate and the ripstop fabric feeling slightly less soft than ENO's parachute nylon. For the $30 savings, these are minor issues.

$40, 400lb limit — half the price of ENO for 90% of the performance

Who This Is For

The Wise Owl is right for: first-time hammock campers who want to test the concept before investing in premium gear, gift givers, and anyone who camps infrequently and cannot justify $70+ for occasional weekend use.

Common Questions

Is Wise Owl Outfitters a good brand?
Wise Owl makes entry-level outdoor gear with generally solid quality for the price. Their hammocks receive consistently positive reviews for value. Quality control is less consistent than ENO or Grand Trunk — examine your hammock on arrival and test the stitching before a backcountry trip.
Wise Owl vs ENO DoubleNest — is ENO worth the extra $30?
ENO (9.1/10, $70) has better quality control, more established customer service, and a lifetime warranty. Wise Owl (8.4/10, $40) is functional at a lower price. If you are going to hammock camp regularly, invest in ENO. For occasional use and gift giving, Wise Owl is fine.
Does Wise Owl hammock include straps?
The Wise Owl includes aluminum carabiners but not tree straps. Their own straps are sold separately for $12-15. Use any straps at least 1 inch wide.
What is the weight limit on Wise Owl hammocks?
400lb for the double version, 300lb for the single. These limits are manufacturer-rated for non-dynamic loading — do not jump into the hammock or use it as a swing.
