Field Notes
Used this on two AT section hikes in Virginia, early morning trail runs in the Blue Ridge, and as the default headlamp for car camping. The moisture sensor earned its place on a night hike near Roan Highlands in October where we hit fog on the ridge — the automatic switch to flood kept visibility usable where a normal headlamp would have been nearly useless.
Who This Is For
The BioLite HeadLamp 800 Pro ranks #1 of 4 in this category and is one of the strongest options in this category. It is well-suited for hikers and campers who want BioLite makes outdoor energy products with a genuine social mission. The HeadLamp 800 Pro delivers 700 lumens with a moisture sensor that automatically switches beam angle in rain or fog to prevent blinding reflection, and it performs best when used for the purpose it was designed around.
I review gear the way most people actually use it — weekend trips in the mid-Atlantic, day hikes on the AT, car camping in the Smokies and down at the Outer Banks. Not expedition use, not extreme conditions. Normal outdoor life for normal people, and occasionally with kids along who provide their own kind of honest product feedback.
