Mountain Laurel Designs Exodus Pack

Mountain Laurel Designs Exodus Pack Review (2026)

Hand-sewn in Texas with custom sizing — a cottage manufacturer done right

MLD is the kind of small operation that should exist in the outdoor industry. They sew every pack by hand and offer custom sizing. The Exodus at $215 for a custom-fit 22L pack is genuinely good value. The hybrid fabric is practical for day hiking. The honest downside is the 4-8 week lead time. But the quality when it arrives is a noticeable step above off-the-shelf options.

Field Notes

My MLD Exodus arrived after a 6-week wait and immediately impressed. The stitching quality is noticeably better than anything bought off a shelf. Used it for a November day hike in the Blue Ridge with cold-weather gear and it carried the extra bulk comfortably.

Who This Is For

The Mountain Laurel Designs Exodus Pack ranks #3 of 4 in this category and is a solid pick with some tradeoffs worth knowing. It is well-suited for hikers and campers who want Mountain Laurel Designs makes ultralight packs by hand. The Exodus offers hybrid DCF construction with a removable framesheet and custom sizing that big brands cannot match, and it performs best when used for the purpose it was designed around.

I review gear the way most people actually use it — weekend trips in the mid-Atlantic, day hikes on the AT, car camping in the Smokies and down at the Outer Banks. Not expedition use, not extreme conditions. Normal outdoor life for normal people, and occasionally with kids along who provide their own kind of honest product feedback.
