Field Notes
Used on morning hikes out of a campsite at Jordan Lake, NC — mostly 5-8 miles with light loads. Perfect in that context. Also tried it on a longer 12-mile day with a full camera kit and extra layers, and it started to feel shapeless past the halfway point. Know what you are buying it for.
Who This Is For
The Zpacks Nero 20 ranks #2 of 4 in this category and is one of the strongest options in this category. It is well-suited for hikers and campers who want Zpacks builds packs out of DCF (Dyneema Composite Fabric) in Florida. The Nero 20 is frameless at 6.6oz and made to order with a 10-year warranty, and it performs best when used for the purpose it was designed around.
I review gear the way most people actually use it — weekend trips in the mid-Atlantic, day hikes on the AT, car camping in the Smokies and down at the Outer Banks. Not expedition use, not extreme conditions. Normal outdoor life for normal people, and occasionally with kids along who provide their own kind of honest product feedback.
