Gossamer Gear LT5 Carbon Poles

Gossamer Gear LT5 Carbon Poles Review (2026)

4.5oz each — the lightest fixed carbon poles with a lifetime warranty

Gossamer Gear makes my favorite day pack and their trekking poles earn the same place in my kit. At 4.5oz each, they are genuinely light without feeling fragile. The cork handles are properly sized. Replaceable carbide tips and a lifetime warranty from the same Austin operation. I have covered probably 400 miles on mine over three years with zero issues. The only caveat: fixed length means you need to order the right size, and these are not ideal for hikers who frequently scramble rocky sections where a snapped pole could be a problem.

Field Notes

My go-to poles for any hike over 6 miles in the Appalachians. Used them on everything from Humpback Rocks in VA to sections of the AT in SNP. The cork handles stay comfortable through a sweaty summer hike in ways that foam does not. The only situation where I wished for adjustability was a steep, relentless descent on loose terrain where I wanted them slightly longer.

Who This Is For

The Gossamer Gear LT5 Carbon Poles ranks #1 of 4 in this category and is one of the strongest options in this category. It is well-suited for hikers and campers who want Gossamer Gear's LT5 Carbon Poles weigh 4.5oz per pole. Among the lightest fixed-length carbon poles from a brand with a real lifetime warranty and US operation, and it performs best when used for the purpose it was designed around.

I review gear the way most people actually use it — weekend trips in the mid-Atlantic, day hikes on the AT, car camping in the Smokies and down at the Outer Banks. Not expedition use, not extreme conditions. Normal outdoor life for normal people, and occasionally with kids along who provide their own kind of honest product feedback.

Common Questions

What length should I order?
Your height in inches x 0.68 equals recommended pole length in cm. I am 5ft 11in and use 115cm. When in doubt, go slightly shorter — easier to plant on a climb.
Are fixed-length poles limiting?
Less than you think for normal hiking. Terrain adjustments matter most on very steep mixed trails. For day hikes and maintained trails, fixed length is fine.
How is the Gossamer warranty in practice?
Exceptional. They respond quickly and the repair or replacement process is straightforward.
