Field Notes
Used LEKI poles for years before switching to Gossamer Gear. The quality is genuinely excellent and the lock mechanism is the best in the industry. What ultimately moved me was the warranty question — lifetime versus 3 years matters when you are talking about poles you will use for a decade. If you are brand-agnostic and want a proven adjustable carbon pole, LEKI is a safe choice.
Who This Is For
The LEKI Micro Vario Carbon ranks #4 of 4 in this category and is a worthwhile option for the right buyer. It is well-suited for hikers and campers who want LEKI has made trekking and ski poles in Germany since 1948. The Micro Vario Carbon features their SpeedLock 2 twist mechanism, which in testing holds better under load than any lever-lock alternative, and it performs best when used for the purpose it was designed around.
I review gear the way most people actually use it — weekend trips in the mid-Atlantic, day hikes on the AT, car camping in the Smokies and down at the Outer Banks. Not expedition use, not extreme conditions. Normal outdoor life for normal people, and occasionally with kids along who provide their own kind of honest product feedback.
