Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0
#1 — Best Versatile Camp Grill

Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0 Review (2026)

Near-smokeless wood fire that also cooks — the best campsite upgrade I have found

We car camp a lot. A big part of camping with the family is the campfire experience — sitting around the fire in the evening. The Solo Stove Bonfire gives you that without the smoke-in-your-face problem that makes it miserable. The secondary combustion really works. Once it gets going it is dramatically better than a traditional fire pit. Add the grill top and you can cook over it too. At $219 for the bundle, the value is strong for something that genuinely pulls double duty as a fire pit and a cooking surface.

Field Notes

Used at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area in NC, a private campground in the Smokies, and regularly in the backyard. The backyard use has been the most frequent. On a neighborhood evening gathering, it became the main event — people crowded around it because you could actually sit near it without smoke driving everyone off.

Who This Is For

The Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0 ranks #1 of 4 in this category and is one of the strongest options in this category. It is well-suited for hikers and campers who want Solo Stove's double-wall design burns wood nearly smoke-free through secondary combustion. With the grill top attachment it becomes a legitimate cooking surface that also works as a gathering fire, and it performs best when used for the purpose it was designed around.

I review gear the way most people actually use it — weekend trips in the mid-Atlantic, day hikes on the AT, car camping in the Smokies and down at the Outer Banks. Not expedition use, not extreme conditions. Normal outdoor life for normal people, and occasionally with kids along who provide their own kind of honest product feedback.

A note on pricing and links: Prices listed are current as of April 2026 and may change. Always verify before buying. Some links on this page are affiliate links — if you buy through them, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps fund the testing. It does not change my ranking.

Common Questions

Is Solo Stove actually smokeless?
Significantly less smoky than a traditional fire, yes. Not perfectly smokeless — wet wood produces more smoke and the startup phase creates some. But once burning, it is dramatically better.
Does it come with the grill top?
No — the grill top is a separate $49 accessory. Worth buying at the same time.
Is 20 lbs too heavy to bring camping?
Fine for car camping. We load it in the car with the campsite gear and it is never a problem.
