Enlightened Equipment Revelation Quilt Review (2026)

Custom-sewn in Minnesota — the benchmark ultralight quilt

★★★★★
9.6/10

I switched to sleeping quilts three years ago and have not looked back. The Enlightened Equipment Revelation is what I use every time. The logic is simple: the insulation compressed under your body weight does nothing to keep you warm, so why carry it? A quilt covers the top of your body and attaches around your sleeping pad to prevent drafts. The Revelation does this as well as anything made. The 850-plus fill power down packs to the size of a Nalgene. Made to order in Minnesota by a small team that clearly cares about what they build. The wait is 6-8 weeks but worth it.

Field Notes

Used my Revelation on overnight AT trips in Virginia in October with lows in the mid-30s, and on a November campout where it dropped to 28F. In both cases the 20F rating held up well with a base layer and warm socks. The attachment system takes a few nights to get comfortable with — my first two nights I kept letting cold air in on the sides. By night three it was second nature.

Who This Is For

The Enlightened Equipment Revelation Quilt ranks #1 of 4 in this category and is one of the strongest options in this category. It is well-suited for hikers and campers who want Enlightened Equipment sews every quilt to order in Winona, Minnesota. The Revelation uses 850-plus fill power down with dozens of configuration options for temperature, size, and fill weight, and it performs best when used for the purpose it was designed around.

I review gear the way most people actually use it — weekend trips in the mid-Atlantic, day hikes on the AT, car camping in the Smokies and down at the Outer Banks. Not expedition use, not extreme conditions. Normal outdoor life for normal people, and occasionally with kids along who provide their own kind of honest product feedback.

Common Questions

Is a quilt right for a beginner?
Get a season of traditional bag sleeping first. A quilt rewards understanding your own sleep habits. If you are new to camping, start with a conventional bag.
What temperature rating should I buy?
A 20F bag handles most three-season Appalachian use. If you camp in the Smokies in October or push into shoulder seasons, consider 10F or 0F.
How long is the EE lead time?
Currently 6-8 weeks for most configurations. Check their site for the current queue.
