BioLite Alpenglow 500 Review (2026)

500 lumens, candlelight flicker, app control -- the camp lantern that makes camping feel better

★★★★★
9.2/10
Reviewed by William • Updated May 2026 $80

The BioLite Alpenglow 500 is the camp lantern that improves the camping experience beyond functional lighting. The candlelight flicker mode, adjustable RGB color, and warm white ambient setting transform a campsite from utilitarian to pleasant. At 500 lumens maximum it lights a full group campsite. At $80 it is the premium option, but I reach for it on more trips than any other lantern because it gets used, not just tolerated.

Field Notes

Used on car camping trips in Shenandoah and the Outer Banks. The candlelight flicker mode at the picnic table during dinner created an atmosphere a standard white LED cannot. My daughter requests it by name. The app control lets one person dim all connected lanterns simultaneously -- useful for group camping.
