Mechanix Wear Original Glove
#14 — Best Camp Chore Glove

Mechanix Wear Original Glove Review (2026)

Thirty dollars of dexterity for every dirty job at camp

★★★★★
7.9/10
Reviewed by William • Updated August 2026 $30

Not a hiking glove and not pretending to be one. The Mechanix Original exists to protect your hands during the dirty parts of camping: driving stakes, handling hot cookware, moving firewood, and working on a bike or a vehicle. The synthetic leather palm gives excellent grip and feel, the stretch back means they actually fit, and at $30 you do not care when they get filthy. Zero insulation and zero weather protection.

What Sets It Apart

These live in the car camping bin, not the pack. The specific value is that you stop being careful — grabbing a hot pot handle, hauling a muddy stake bag, and repacking a filthy cooler all become non-events. Machine washable matters more than it sounds when the alternative is a glove that stays greasy.

Common Questions

Are these warm at all?
No. There is no insulation. Below about 45°F your hands will be cold in these.
Can they handle hot cookware?
Briefly. They offer some protection against a quick grab, but they are not heat-rated gloves.
