The locking system comparison
I've used lever-lock (FlickLock) and twist-lock (LEKI SuperLock) extensively. Lever-lock is faster to adjust and easier with gloves. Twist-lock is slower but more secure under load. On worn lever-lock systems — which every frequently-used pole eventually becomes — you can get slippage under downhill load. The SuperLock doesn't slip. For someone buying poles they'll use heavily for years, that matters.
"The SuperLock simply doesn't slip under load. For long-term reliability, it's the locking system I'd choose."
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the LEKI SuperLock actually better than FlickLock?
For long-term reliability under sustained load, yes. New FlickLock systems are excellent. As they wear, they can slip under downhill load. The SuperLock maintains clamping force more consistently. For infrequent use, the difference is negligible.
Does LEKI offer a lifetime warranty?
LEKI offers a 3-year warranty on most poles, not lifetime. Their warranty service is responsive, but it's worth noting against the lifetime coverage on Gossamer Gear poles.
What is the length range on the Micro Vario Carbon?
110–130 cm. This covers most adult heights. Very tall hikers (6'3" and above) may find the 130 cm maximum limiting for flat terrain.
