AeroPress Original
#1 — Best Camp Coffee Maker Overall

AeroPress Original Review (2026)

The best cup at camp, and it cleans up in fifteen seconds

★★★★★
9.4/10

The AeroPress remains the best answer for camp coffee that is not weight-critical. Short immersion plus gentle pressure produces a clean, low-bitterness cup that tolerates imprecise water temperature and imprecise grind — which matters enormously when you are brewing on uneven ground with a pot that has no thermometer. The genuine camp advantage is cleanup: pressing the plunger ejects a compressed dry puck straight into a trash bag, leaving nothing to rinse but the seal. At 8.5oz it is heavy for a thru-hiker and trivial for anyone else.

What Sets It Apart

Used on car camping trips and short overnights for several years. The forgiveness is the underrated property — camp brewing means water that is too hot because you have no thermometer and grind that is wrong because you bought it pre-ground. The AeroPress produces a good cup anyway, where a pour-over punishes both errors.

Common Questions

AeroPress Original or Go?
The Go packs into its own mug and saves bulk; the Original is lighter without the mug and has a larger chamber. For camping where you already carry a mug, the Original.
Can I skip the paper filters?
Yes, with a reusable metal disc. The cup gets heavier bodied and slightly more sediment-prone, and you eliminate a consumable.
