Small screws loosen, threads strip, and the joint develops play that eventually becomes a break. Tightening screws periodically with a small driver extends life considerably, and most people never do it. Frames without hinges obviously do not have this problem at all.

UV protection does not simply wear off
UV blocking in quality lenses comes from the lens material itself or an integrated absorber rather than a surface coating, so it does not rub away with normal use. Prolonged heat, such as months on a car dashboard, can degrade some lens materials over time, which is a reason not to store them there.

Frames warp from heat, not from age
A dashboard in summer regularly exceeds temperatures that soften acetate and nylon frames, which then no longer fit correctly. This is the single most common way an otherwise good pair becomes unwearable, and it is entirely avoidable.
