The Expedition Scout is the entry point to analog field watches: 40mm case, high-contrast dial with 24-hour markings, nylon strap, and Timex's Indiglo backlight that illuminates the entire dial rather than a single lamp. Analog has a real advantage over digital for hiking — you read elapsed time and remaining daylight at a glance from hand positions rather than doing arithmetic. At $55 with 50m water resistance it is hard to fault, though the movement is basic quartz and the nylon strap is mediocre.
